Created for Sahara Longe at Timothy Taylor Gallery, this catalogue was designed to give the artwork space, pace and physical presence.
The format immediately changes how the piece feels in the hand.
At 240mm square with extended front and back flaps, it moves away from the proportions of a standard catalogue and feels more object-like from the outset. Those oversized flaps add structure and create a slower, more deliberate opening experience.
The cover material plays a major role in that.
Produced using duplexed Colorplan stock combining White Frost and Candy Pink, the outer carries both softness and depth at the same time. The contrast between the two colours introduces subtle warmth without needing heavy graphics or excessive finishing.
The embossing is equally restrained.
Rather than acting as decoration, the embossed Sahara Longe detail becomes part of the surface itself, emerging through light and handling rather than dominating the cover visually.
Inside, the paper selection becomes more layered.
Different stocks are used across the book to support pacing and variation throughout the catalogue. Munken Lynx introduces a softer, more tactile texture across selected sections, while Symbol Freelife Satin provides sharper image reproduction and stronger colour depth where needed.
That balance matters in an art catalogue.
Too much gloss can flatten the experience, while overly absorbent stocks can lose image detail and tonal control. Using both stocks allows the piece to shift naturally between texture and clarity without losing consistency.
