Created for an event hosted by the Earl and Countess of March, this invitation piece was designed to feel less like traditional print and more like a collectible artefact discovered from another world.
Everything about the structure was built around the idea of Atlantis.
Rather than using a standard invitation format, the main invite was produced as a custom die-cut fish form, immediately turning the piece into something unexpected from the moment it’s handled. The silhouette alone creates intrigue before any of the printed detail is even read.
That physical interaction is what gives the project its impact.
The invitation folds neatly in half and slides into a printed outer sleeve, creating a layered reveal that feels theatrical and immersive. Removing the invite from the sleeve becomes part of the experience itself, reinforcing the idea of uncovering something hidden beneath the surface.
The finishing was deliberately subtle but highly effective.
Foiled detailing across the fish illustration creates movement and reflection reminiscent of light across water, while the softer muted print palette keeps the overall piece elegant rather than novelty driven. The foil catches light differently as the invite moves, helping the scales and line work feel almost animated in the hand.
The sleeve continues the underwater narrative.
Aquatic textures, submerged ruins and sea inspired illustration work combine to create something that feels atmospheric and mysterious without becoming overly literal. The project balances storytelling and refinement carefully, allowing the invitation to feel premium while still remaining playful and imaginative.
Structurally, the simplicity is what makes it successful.
Although the finished piece feels highly bespoke, the format relies on intelligent folding, precision die-cutting and carefully considered finishing rather than unnecessary complexity. That restraint allows the concept and craftsmanship to carry the experience naturally.
